Winter Wonderland

As you may have heard, NYC got dumped with snow last night/today. It was nice to watch it fall from my window while sipping some hot chocolate...a totally different story trying to walk through it on the way to work this morning!

From what I hear, Central Park got 20 inches of snow, I live about 5 blocks from there so I'm assuming I got something like that. Snow is different in the city though, it's all so condensed, it seems like so much more! For one thing, initially they only plow the Avenues (for those of you who aren't city savvy, those are the roads going north-to-south) and not the Streets...although, I still don't see any streets that are plowed. Imagine a city like New York only able to go North and South? Pretty much means you really can't get anywhere. I saw a bus today blocking the North side of Park Ave. because it was trying to turn off of 33 St. and got stuck.

This being the week between Christmas and NYE, a lot of people have off of work, I was expecting the subway to have a little less people during rush-hour this morning but it was deserted! Got a seat at the first stop! Walking to work was interesting as well, Katie and I work right near the Empire State Building and there were no tourists to be seen! The streets (especially during the holidays) are usually mobbed with people!

When I finally got to work this morning (in my mountain man boots BTW, see below) I found out that our heat was broken. It was freezing! Only 6 people (out of about 50) came into my office. After failed attempts to get in touch with our building's management company and the heating company, we all left to work from home. Trekking through the snow again (about 2 hrs later) to get home wasn't great...then when I got home I remembered that we're pretty much out of food because our groceries won't be delivered until Wednesday! Oh the misery of living in the City during a snow storm....

Empire State Building....WHAT!! There are usually hundreds of people walking around there.

Hope you're all enjoying the snow!
